Reminder: US Tax Returns are Due Today

Today is the day: the US tax return deadline! Don’t forget to remind your international students that even if they did not earn income in the US last year they must still complete Form 8843. Did you know that students can find your school’s profile on InternationalStudent.com based on the program they choose in our school search tool? Because of this, you will want to ensure your programs are up to date. Here is how you can update your list of programs to get the most out of your Featured School Profile:

1. Log into your account and on the right hand side under "International Student Account" click "My School Administration."
2. Click the pencil icon labeled "Manage School Profile."
3. Scroll down to “School Details.”
4. Select “Programs” on the far right
5. Click on “Program Offered” to select the program you wish to add.
6. Choose the “Degree Level” and then click on the blue “Add Program” box.
7. Your program has now successfully been added!
8. If you need to delete a program simply select the trash can icon on the right to remove it.

Spring time means it is time to start planning for the “Superbowl” of international education conferences: NAFSA. We are excited for this year’s conference and to spend some time in Philadelphia. Tip of the Month: Help New Students Adjust

Our tip of the month comes from Jackie Li at Green River College. Find out how they help their students adjust to college life in the US.

“At Green River College we’ve put a lot of our attention on peer mentors. We’ve notice that first quarter students find it difficult to talk to their teachers and our staff and we wanted to bridge that gap. We require that all first quarter IEP students attend our weekly workshops that include learning modules such as personal safety, study skills and college success. In addition, students are paired with another international student that they meet outside of class once a week. Since we’ve implemented this program our students are not only focused on their school but more comfortable talking to friends and teachers. It’s given all students, mentor and mentee, a lot of self pride to be more connected with the college.”
