As a teenager, I listened to my grandma speak often about the effects of the Nigerian War that took place from 1967- 1970. I made up my mind to do all I can to protect the rights of people at all costs. I went ahead to study Law at the undergraduate level and I practised as a lawyer for some years before I started to consider a masters degree. I understood that some of the Human Rights Violation issues in my country could not be easily curtailed domestically and it was essential to have a first hand experience of how the justice system functioned in other developed nations, so I can come back home to Nigeria and suggest similar helpful methods and policies. From my research, the International Law and Human Rights program at the University of Tartu appealed to me because of how in-depth the course outline was and the fact that it was located in Estonia, which had a low crime rate, with an efficient legal system made it more attractive for me.
