I'm currently pursuing my master's in Strategic Design and management in Parson's School of Design. This travel fund will hep me go back to India for project which aims at making affordable sanitary napkins in India as sanitation today in India is an alarming subject . A study conducted by A C Nielsen 'Sanitary Protection: Every woman's health right', reveals that only 12% of India's 355 million menstruating women use sanitary napkins. Around 23% of adolescent girls drop out of school after they begin menstruating because of inadequate menstrual protection like sanitary napkins. While 12% of India’s women use sanitary pads, while the rest resort to using cheaper material (cloth or husk), as they are more affordable. My aim during this travel is to make affordable napkins in collaboration with both with a Chinese manufacturer whose offered to help.
