Founded in 1839, the University of Missouri (“Mizzou”, “MU”) is a major, comprehensive research university. Mizzou has a diverse enrollment with more than 34,000 students from every state in the U.S. and more than 120 countries. MU has formal agreements with more than 200 universities and government agencies around the world. Nearly 1/3 of freshmen come from the top 10% of their high school classes. Mizzou is one of only 34 public U.S. institutions to be granted membership in the Association of American Universities (AAU) which recognizes top-tier universities for outstanding teaching and research endeavors. The student-to-faculty ratio of 20:1 allows MU’s faculty of prominent scholars and scientists to directly involve students in research. The teaching method at Mizzou, the “Missouri Method,” calls for students to learn through research, internship, practicum, and service. Mizzou’s internationally recognized programs in Business, Engineering, and Journalism contribute to the university’s consistent top-tier rankings.
